Servegate bumped BYU up in the national rankings.

BYU after winning the replay of a fifth game overtime against UCLA during the weekend moved up one spot to No. 3 in the new national media poll released Tuesday.

Deeper look at men’s volleyball NCAA Tournament selection criteria

UCLA could still win the MPSF regular season title, but a deeper look into the NCAA Tournament selection committee shows that a regular season title may not be enough for the Bruins to get the at-large bid.

With one week remaining in the regular season, the race for the lone at-large bid and seeding for the NCAA Tournament remains tight among the nation’s top teams. In addition, UCLA is one of five teams that still has a chance to win the MPSF regular season title.

Top 5 men’s volleyball matches to follow tonight

Only one thing could overshadow a No. 1 versus No. 2 match-up: the aftermath of servegate.

No. 3 UCLA and No. 4 BYU will conclude their two match series after the opener featured one of the most controversial ending to a NCAA volleyball match in recent history. In addition, No. 1 USC will look to extend its nation-best winning streak as it plays host to No. 2 UC Irvine.

USC after extending its winning streak to 12 matches with two victories during the weekend jumped one spot to No. 1 in the new national media poll released Tuesday.

Deeper look at men’s volleyball NCAA Tournament selection criteria

USC is in third place in the MPSF, but a deeper look into the NCAA Tournament selection committee criteria shows the Trojans faring more favorably than other teams in contention for the at-large bid.

With less than one month until Selection Sunday, the race for the lone at-large bid and seeding for the NCAA Tournament remains tight among the nation’s top teams. In addition, the Trojans’ nation-best 13-match winning streak and several upsets last week has resulted in that gap continuing to narrow.

Top 5 men’s volleyball matches to follow tonight

It doesn’t get much bigger than this in regular season play.

Two matches between top-five nationally ranked teams highlight this weekend. No. 1 UC Irvine and No. 3 UCLA meet with first place in the MPSF on the line, while No. 2 USC and No. 5 Stanford play each other with both teams trying to bolster their resume for the NCAA Tournament selection committee.
