Pepperdine, Penn State greats power Puerto Rico past U.S. in Pan Am quarterfinals

A former All-American ended the U.S. chances of winning a gold medal at the Pan American Cup.

Opposite Maurice Torres had both a match-high 15 kills and three aces as Puerto Rico defeated the United States 25-21, 25-22, 20-25, 25-14 in the Pan American Cup quarterfinals on Friday in Gatineau, Canada. Hawai’i, Penn State, Pepperdine players earn victories at Hermosa Beach Open

Three current college men’s volleyball players competing as amateurs came up short of winning the qualification tournament and making the main draw for one of the nation’s biggest professional beach volleyball events this year.

The pair of Pepperdine setter Robert Mullahey and Penn State incoming freshman outside attacker Will Bantle, along with Hawai’i outside attacker Colton Cowell and his partner all won multiple matches at the AVP Hermosa Beach Open on Thursday in Hermosa Beach, California. Hawai’i smashes Penn State in fifth game to reach NCAA semifinals

COLUMBUS, Ohio — In the first fifth game in NCAA Tournament play-in match history, Hawai’i delivered in dominant fashion.
