Video: Stanford coach Kosty breaks down win vs. Cal State Northridge

Outside attacker Brian Cook had a match-high 18 kills and a .696 attack percentage as No. 8 Stanford swept Cal State Northridge 25-20, 25-17, 25-22 on Saturday in Northridge, Calif.

The Cardinal in the victory finished with a season-high .456 attack percentage and committed seven combined attack errors in the final two games. In addition, the win moved Stanford within a half-match of No. 9 UC Irvine for eighth place and the final spot in the MPSF Tournament.

MPSF debates changing conference schedule format with loss of Pacific

Conference coaches and officials are considering changing the MPSF schedule for future seasons following the elimination of the Pacific men’s volleyball team.

Stanford coach John Kosty at a recent MPSF league meeting proposed that the conference create a new three-year rotating schedule format for matches involving Stanford, BYU, UC San Diego and Cal Baptist.

Stanford coach calls on teams to show support for Pacific men’s volleyball

Stanford coach John Kosty is doing everything in his power to help ensure its conference rival Pacific does not drop its men’s volleyball program.

Days after the Pacific athletics department recommended that the university eliminate the men’s volleyball team, Kosty during the weekend sent a nationwide letter to college men’s volleyball teams encouraging coaches and players to object to the decision.

Projected preseason top 10 national rankings: No. 5 Stanford

Stanford is projected by Off the Block to be No. 5 in the preseason national rankings.

Off the Block throughout December will reveal its projected men’s volleyball preseason top 10 national rankings and will profile a top-10 team each day. The Off the Block projected preseason rankings were created independently of the AVCA Coaches Poll and the Volleyball Magazine Top 10 Media Poll.

The college men’s volleyball season begins on Jan. 3 and concludes with the Final Four in May.

Stanford assistant Shibuya named associate head coach for Cardinal

A longtime Stanford assistant coach was promoted within the Cardinal coaching staff.

The Stanford athletics department announced Friday that Ken Shibuya was named the associate head coach of the Cardinal men’s volleyball team for the upcoming season.

Shibuya has served as an assistant coach on Stanford head coach John Kosty’s staff since 2006. In his six seasons with the Cardinal, Shibuya helped turn around the struggling program into a annual top 10 nationally ranked team and helped guide Stanford to the 2010 NCAA championship.
