IPFW’s Rivera wins 2013 Off the Block/Springbak, Inc. Fan Choice Player of the Year

IPFW outside attacker Eddie Rivera received more than 1,000 votes in the championship round to win the 2013 Off the Block/Springbak, Inc. Fan Choice Player of the Year.

The Fan Choice Player of the Year is an annual 65-player bracket-style tournament that recognizes the best individual performances from NCAA Division I-II men’s volleyball players during the season and gives volleyball fans from around the world the chance to decide the winner through online voting on Off the Block’s website. After five days and almost 10,000 online votes, the four-player field is set for the Off the Block/Springbak, Inc. Fan Choice Player of the Year Championship Round.

Conference tournament men’s volleyball matches to follow tonight

The men’s volleyball conference tournament brackets are all set — now let the April Madness ensue.

The conference tournament quarterfinals matches begin this weekend in the MIVA and MPSF as teams battle to make the four-team NCAA Tournament field. UCLA and Pepperdine highlight tonight’s matches with both teams looking to end postseason droughts, while out in the Midwest, Ball State and IPFW renew an in-state rivalry but this time in the conference tournament.

MIVA announces Player of the Year, all-conference teams

Loyola after getting a share of the MIVA regular season championship has now picked up the top two individual conference awards.

The MIVA announced Wednesday that Loyola outside attacker Joseph Smalzer was selected as the 2013 MIVA Player of the Year, while freshman outside attacker Thomas Jaeschke was the 2013 MIVA Freshman of the Year.

Top 5 men’s volleyball matches to follow tonight

It’s the final Wednesday of the regular season, and it’s so big it warrants a top-five match breakdown.

No. 3 UCLA will try to clinch a home match in the MPSF Tournament and remain in contention for the only at-large bid to the NCAA Tournament as it plays No. 5 Pepperdine. In addition, the Conference Tournament resumes tonight with both semifinal matches.

Top 10 non-conference matches to hope get scheduled for 2014

With the calendars turned to April, it not only means the conference tournaments ready to begin but college men’s volleyball coaches beginning to create their schedules for next season.
