Don’t let the lack match-ups between top 10 nationally ranked teams fool anyone, this is a big night in college men’s volleyball.

First-place in the EIVA will be on the line as Princeton and Harvard renew their rivalry in a critical conference match. In addition, out in the West Coast No. 2 BYU, No. 4 UCLA and No. 5 Pepperdine will each attempt to bounce back from conference losses earlier this week.

Top 5 college men’s volleyball matches to follow tonight

It’s a smaller than usual slate of matches for a Saturday night, but there is still plenty of intrigue with several matches.

No. 3 Pepperdine days after knocking off No. 1 UCLA will now take on No. 8 UC Santa Barbara, which is coming off an emotional five-game loss to No. 6 USC. In addition, Ball State and Princeton will play each other in a critical non-conference match for both teams.

Top 5 college men’s volleyball matches to follow tonight

Several teams outside the top 10 of the national rankings have a chance to get a statement victory tonight.

Hawai’i and Cal State Northridge highlight the slate of matches tonight as both teams try to move up in the MPSF standings. In addition, Princeton will attempt to bounce back from a winless West Coast road trip with a non-conference match against IPFW.

Mount Olive picked to win Conference Carolinas championship

Mount Olive will open its season this week as the official preseason favorite to win the Conference Carolinas championship.

The defending Conference Carolinas regular season champion Trojans received five of eight first-place votes to finish atop the conference’s preseason coaches poll that was released Monday.

Penn State, Loyola to play new program Erskine during 2014 season

Erskine isn’t shying away from scheduling tough non-conference matches entering the program’s second year of existence.

Off the Block Fan Choice Player of the Year: First-round voting

Off the Blocked selected and seeded the 65 players in a bracket, and now it is up to the fans to determine who should win the Off the Block Fan Choice Player of the Year.

The Fan Choice Player of the Year recognizes the best individual performances from NCAA Division I-II men’s volleyball players during the season and gives volleyball fans from around the world the chance decide the winner through online voting.

Conference Carolinas school Erskine adds men’s volleyball for 2013 season

A new team will join the Conference Carolinas for the 2013 season.

Erskine College announced Monday that it will add men’s volleyball as an intercollegiate sport for the 2012-13 school year and the team will compete in the Division II conference for its inaugural season.

Erskine, a Christian liberal arts college located in South Carolina, was already a member of the Conference Carolinas. The school will have 14 teams playing in the conference for the 2011-12 school year.
