Video: Reyes reflects on time at BYU, challenge ahead at Nebraska (Part 1)

Jonathan Bates | Associate Editor

This will be the final postseason at BYU for assistant coach Jaylen Reyes.

Reyes at the end of the season will leave BYU to become the assistant coach for the Nebraska women’s volleyball team, a position he accepted in March.

Reyes replaces former Long Beach State mens’ volleyball player and assistant coach Tyler Hildebrand, who left the Huskers after being name the director of coaching for United States Beach National Team Program in February.

Reyes played libero at BYU from 2012-2015 and has spent the last three years on staff as an assistant coach. As a player, Reyes ranks as BYU’s all-time rally-scoring era leader in games played (431) and second in career digs (762). Among his coaching accomplishments are three consecutive MPSF regular season championships and two Volley Four appearances and BYU players earning eight All-American selections. He was honored as one of the 30 under 30 recipients from the AVCA last week.

The 2018 BYU men’s volleyball team won the MPSF regular season and will be the No. 1 seed for the upcoming MPSF Tournament.

Check out part one of an interview with Reyes as he discusses fan reaction to his move to Nebraska, how the opportunity to move to Nebraska came about, why he moved to the women’s side, his coaching influences, what he will miss about BYU and what he will miss about men’s volleyball. Part two of this interview will posted Thursday on the Off the Block website.
