Hawai’i outside attacker Colton Cowell three months after standing out on the biggest college men’s volleyball stage will now represent the United States at an international event.

Live video: United States vs. A1 Red in High Performance Championships finals

A gold medal at a prestigious USA Volleyball event will be on the line for members of the U.S. Boys’ Youth National Training Team.

In preparation for the upcoming FIVB U19 World Championship, the United States split its 24-player training team into two squads and competed at the USA Volleyball High Performance Championships in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. The U.S. Boys’ Youth National Training Team Red advanced to the championship match of the Boys International Division, while U.S. Boys’ Youth National Training Team White lost in the quarterfinals. Russia meddles in U.S. bid to win gold medal at VNL Finals

Matt Anderson was pretty clear in his postmatch news conference that he couldn’t care less about individual honors — and that’s even after winning the most valuable player of a prestigious international tournament.
