Springfield pounds Lees-McRae in sweep to win Morgan Classic title

The college that is the birthplace of volleyball is now champions of the oldest college men’s volleyball non-conference tournament.

Springfield swept Lees-McRae 25-21, 25-15, 27-25 on Saturday in Springfield, Mass., to win the Volleyball Hall of Fame Morgan Classic championship for the first time in its program history.

Top 5 men’s volleyball matches to follow tonight

It could be a night of firsts in college men’s volleyball.

Lees-McRae and Springfield will meet in the Morgan Classic championship match as they both attempt to win the tournament for the first time in their program history. In addition, UC San Diego will try to do something it has never accomplished in its history: defeat No. 4 BYU.

Top 5 men’s volleyball matches to follow tonight

It’s all about revenge and rivalries tonight in college men’s volleyball.

No. 3 Stanford will get its rematch against No. 10 Long Beach State — almost 10 months after losing to the 49ers in the conference tournament. In addition, on the West Coast two of the nation’s best young setters will face each other, while on the East Coast a Conference Carolinas team will make history at one of the oldest volleyball tournaments.

VIDEO: Penn State coach Pavlik discusses upcoming EIVA season

The EIVA season is about to begin for the team with the greatest conference dynasty in NCAA volleyball history.

No. 5 Penn State will begin its attempt to win its 14th consecutive EIVA regular season title as it opens the conference season against Rutgers-Newark on Friday and NJIT on Saturday.

My men’s volleyball media poll ballot

For the third time this season, there is a new No. 1 in the national media poll.

UCLA received eight first-place votes to move up one spot and finish atop this week’s media poll that was released Tuesday night

Along with UCLA moving to No. 1, Stanford jumped four spots to No. 3 following its two road victories against then-No. 1 BYU. The Cougars dropped three spots to No. 4.
