Top 5 men’s volleyball matches to follow tonight

BYU leads nation in home attendance by wide margin

BYU is almost doubling every Division I-II men’s volleyball team in the nation in home attendance average one-third of the way through the regular season.

The Cougars through the first six weeks of the regular season are averaging a nation-best 4,595 people per home match — more than 1,500 people higher than any other team.

For the first time this season, a large chunk of the men’s volleyball national spotlight shifts away from California for the night.

No. 1 BYU opening a two-match series against No. 6 USC in Provo, Utah, and No. 5 Penn State going on the road to play Loyola highlights several of the big matches tonight outside of California. Inside the Golden State, though, two top-five ranked play each other No. 3 UCLA plays host to No. 4 Stanford.

NCAA awards prestigious scholarship to former Ball State player Nelson

A former Ball State All-American middle attacker received a prestigious NCAA scholarship to help continue his education.

The Ball State athletics department announced Wednesday that Anders Nelson was named a recipient of the NCAA Postgraduate Scholarship.

The NCAA Postgraduate Scholarship is a one-time $7,5000 scholarship awarded to a student-athlete based on their athletic and academic achievements, leadership skills, community service and campus involvement. The NCAA awards up to 48 scholarships to student-athlets in each of the fall, winter and spring college sports seasons.
