Mount Olive sweeps North Greenville, extends winning streak to 10 matches

There was nothing North Greenville could do to slow down middle attacker Constantinos Iacovou.

Iacovou finished with nine kills and zero errors on a .818 attack percentage as Mount Olive swept North Greenville 25-23, 25-17, 25-22 on Friday to remain undefeated in the ConfCarolinas.

Iacovou after not being set once in the opening game had a game-high six kills in the second game. In addition, Iacovou had a kill that jump started an 8-2 run early in the third game to help secure the home sweep.

This is the fourth match this season that Iacovou had at least five kills and hit more than .800. The junior from Cyprus also has a career-high .556 attack percentage this season.

Setter Jackson Lahey guided the offense to out-hit North Greenville .390 to .287 en route to Mount Olive extending its winning streak to 10 matches.

Outside attacker Kory Grant led Mount Olive with 11 kills and hit .321. Outside attacker Blake Hosic added seven kills on a .353 attack percentage and had a kill late in the third game to give the Trojans the lead.

Lahey defensively also had a match-high six blocks, including back-to-back blocks in the opening game to help the Trojans overcome a five-point deficit.

North Greenville opposite Carter Shomock in the loss finished with a match-high 12 kills.

Both North Greenville’s middle attackers did not commit an attack error and had 15 combined kills.

Michael de la Cruz had eight kills on a .571 attack percentage. Jacob Koch contributed seven kills and hit a team-best .700 against the Trojans.

Mount Olive with this victory remains in first place in ConfCarolinas as it prepares to place second-place Belmont Abbey on Saturday. The defending ConfCarolinas champions Belmont Abbey defeated Barton on Friday to remain within a match behind Mount Olive for first place.
