New program Barry racks up another win, sweeps Barton to stay undefeated

The undefeated start continues for the first-year program Barry.

Outside attacker Philip Tein had a match-high 20 kills on a .333 attack percentage as Barry swept Barton 29-27, 26-24, 25-23 on Saturday in Miami Shores, Florida, for its third consecutive win to begin the season.

Tein opened the match with nine kills in the first game, including two kills in overtime to go along with the game-winning block.

The freshman in the second game also had a game-high six kills and helped Barry overcame 22-18 deficit to win in overtime. Tein in the 8-2 run to close out the game had two kills with the final kill fighting off a Barton game-point to force overtime.

Tein was one of two Buccaneers with more than five kills against Barton. Outside attacker Seth Bohler coming off the bench at the start of the second game added six kills.

Barry out-hit Barton .122 to .073 en route to earning its third consecutive win against ConfCarolinas schools during the opening week of the season.

The Division II school from the IVA defeated Erskine in the program’s inaugural match and then swept Barton on Friday in the opener of the two-match series.

Barton in the series finale loss finished with 11 blocks – one more block than Barry.

Middle attacker Ryan Geraci led all players with seven blocks, while pin-hitter Jack Sandahl added six blocks.

Sandahl in the loss also contributed a team-high nine kills.
