What to know: The 2025 college men’s volleyball season will officially kick off with a showdown between two of the top pin-hitters in the nation. All-MIVA opposite Shane Wetzel and No. 11 Ohio State will play host to All-MPSF outside attacker Luke Benson and No. 6 BYU in the opener of a two-match series. Benson finished last season in the nation’s top 30 with a 3.45 kills per game average and had a conference-best .344 attack percentage. Benson also had at least 20 kills in six matches, including a team-high 25 kills on a .465 attack percentage in a season-ending loss to USC in the MPSF Tournament quarterfinals. Wetzel was among the national leaders with a 3.37 kills per game average and had double-double kills in all four of the Buckeyes’ postseason matches. Among the opposite’s top performances featured 19 kills on a .545 attack percentage as Ohio State beat Loyola en route to winning the MIVA Tournament championship. Both Ohio State and BYU graduated multiple starters from last season but were active in the transfer portal this offseason.
