There isn’t much doubt about the preseason favorite to win the MPSF.
The defending NCAA champions UCLA received all but one first-place vote to finish atop the MPSF Preseason Coaches Poll that was released on Wednesday.
The Bruins won the MPSF championship last season en route to winning the program’s first NCAA title since 2006. Five All-American starters return for UCLA, including setter Andrew Rowan who was named the 2023 National Newcomer of the Year.
UCLA received 36 points to finish seven points ahead of second-place Stanford. Stanford reached the MPSF Tournament finals last season and was the only other team to receive a first-place vote in the preseason poll.
Both BYU and Grand Canyon were tied in third place with 23 points to round out the top half of the poll.
The MPSF season will begin in February and conclude with the seven-team MPSF Tournament in April. The winner of the MPSF Tournament will receive the conference’s automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament.
