It’s going to be a bit before George Mason plays at home.
George Mason as part of unveiling its 2024 schedule announced it will be on the road for the first two months of the season before playing its home opener in March.
The Patriots will begin the season with 13 matches away from its home court – 10 road matches and three neutral-site matches.
The stretch of matches also will feature four teams that finished last season ranked in the national coaches poll. Among those nationally ranked opponents includes a neutral-site match against Long Beach State, which advanced to the NCAA Tournament semifinals in 2013.
George Mason will play its home opener against former EIVA rival Saint Francis on March 2. That match also will start an 11-match home stand through the second to last week of the regular season.
This schedule comes a year after the Patriots had four total road matches. George Mason last season, which was the host site of the NCAA Tournament, played only home non-conference matches and did not have a road match until late March.
George Mason playing with a roster primarily comprised of underclassmen finished last season in fourth place in the EIVA and defeated Harvard in the conference tournament opening round.
The Patriots return three All-EIVA starters, including outside attacker Omar Hoyos. Hoyos was in the nation’s top 30 with a 3.58 kills per game average last season and spent the offseason playing with the Puerto Rico Men’s National Team.
