More than a decade later Penn State is heading back to CSUN.
CSUN as part of recently unveiling its 2024 schedule announced it will play host to the defending EIVA champions in a non-conference match on March 5.
This will be the first meeting between the two teams since 2016. It also will be the third time the Matadors will have a home match in the series and the first time since 2010.
Penn State finished last season winning the EIVA championship and advancing to the NCAA Tournament semifinals. Despite graduating multiple All-American starters, middle attacker Toby Ezeonu returns after being named a finalist for the Ryan Millar Award and being second in the nation with a .490 attack percentage.
CSUN ended the 2023 season in sixth place in the Big West and reached the conference tournament quarterfinals. Pin-hitter Kyle Hobus also earned All-Big West honors and was in the nation’s top 30 with a 3.59 kills per game average.
Penn State leads the all-time series 9-5 but CSUN won the most recent meeting in 2016.
The match against the Nittany Lions will be part of an eight-match homestand for the Matadors. Among the other non-conference matches during the homestand includes playing Lewis and Pepperdine.
