It hasn’t happened often in its program history, but Charleston is making a West Coast road trip during the upcoming season.
Charleston as part of unveiling its 2024 schedule announced it will have a mid-season four-match California road trip with matches against Concordia, UC San Diego, CSUN and UC Santa Barbara.
This will be the first time Charleston has played a road match against a MPSF or Big West team since 2020. It also will be the first time the Golden Eagles have traveled to California since 2016.
Charleston won a program-record 22 matches last season and was ranked in the national polls for the first time in program history.
The Golden Eagles will have to replace four All-EIVA starters from last year’s team but return Second-Team All-EIVA opposite Garret Schnitker. The team in the offseason added multiple players from the transfer portal, including former Benedict outside attacker Ras Jesse Delancy who was the 2023 Division II national Player of the Year.
Both UC Santa Barbara and CSUN were ranked in the national coaches throughout the 2023 season. In addition, Concordia was ranked No. 2 in the Division II National Coaches Poll – one spot behind Charleston.
The road-trip finale against UC Santa Barbara on March 2 will be the first meeting between the two schools. Charleston last played Concordia, UC San Diego and CSUN in 2016.
