Two teams that reached the recent NCAA Tournament will square off on back-to-back days during the upcoming season.
King as part of recently unveiling its 2024 schedule announced it will travel for a two-match non-conference series against Long Beach State on Feb. 2-3.
King became the first No. 3 seed in the conference’s history to win the ConfCarolinas Tournament and earn an automatic berth to the NCAA Tournament. All-ConfCarolinas pin-hitter Warren Davis was in the nation’s top 20 with a 3.78 kills per game average and had a combined 83 kills in four postseason matches.
Long Beach State advanced to the NCAA Tournament semifinals last season and finished ranked No. 4 in the national coaches poll and national media poll. Among the starters returners includes All-American libero Mason Briggs, who won the 2023 Erik Shoji Award and spent the offseason playing with the U.S. Men’s National Team.
This will be the second consecutive year that the Beach and the Tornado have played each other. Long Beach State hit more than .500 as it swept King last season in the inaugural meeting between the two programs.
Long Beach State is one of two NCAA Tournament participants that King is slated to play next season.
The team will face the defending EIVA champions Penn State as part of a East Coast road trip to open the season.
