Grand Canyon remains in top five of newest RPI rankings

There was no drop in the RPI for Grand Canyon.

Grand Canyon following two more losses during the weekend remained at No. 5 in the latest RPI rankings that the NCAA released Monday.

A team’s RPI ranking is calculated using a mathematical formula that includes its winning percentage, strength of schedule and opponents’ strength of schedule.The RPI also is one of the criteria categories the selection committee uses to determine the NCAA Tournament field.

Along with Grand Canyon, the top five in the new RPI remains unchanged from last week.

Ohio State made the biggest jump in the new rankings moving three spots to No. 6. With this climb, Ohio State surpassed both BYU and UC Irvine in the rankings.

An updated RPI rankings will be released each Monday throughout the regular season and conference tournaments. The final RPI rankings before the seven-team NCAA Tournament will be unveiled on Selection Sunday.
