What to know: The biggest non-conference home matches of the season have arrived for No. 8/9 Ball State – and are now against an opponent with experience pulling off road upsets. Ball State will try to extend its four-match winning streak as it opens a two-match series against No. 11 BYU on Thursday. BYU enters this match after splitting a two-match road series with No. 7/6 UC Irvine last week. The Cougars in their five-game victory against the Anteaters finished with a near single-match program record 22 blocks. Middle attacker Teon Taylor led all players with a season-high 13 blocks and was named on Tuesday the National Middle Attacker of the Week. Taylor also is third in the nation with a 1.619 blocks per game average and has helped lead the Cougars to the nation’s top five for both blocks and opponent attack percentage. First-year starting setter David Flores has guided Ball State to the 11th-best attack percentage in the nation at .349. Ball State has hit more than .375 in three of its last four matches, including a season-high .542 attack percentage in a sweep against Harvard. In addition, All-American outside attacker Kaleb Jenness is ninth in the nation with a 3.81 kills per game average. This is the second consecutive year the Cardinals and Cougars have played each other. The two teams split a two-match non-conference series last year in Provo, Utah.
