What to know: It does not get much better than this, No. 1 vs No. 2. Long Beach State vs UCLA in the Pyramid as two of the most historic teams in men’s college volleyball history write another chapter in their long time rivalry. For the home squad, Freshman sensation Alex Nikolov appears to be on his way to becoming the sports’ next great outside attacker. The Bulgarian leads the Beach in kills and aces, collecting 4.54 kills per game while attacking at a .402 efficiency. He is joined on the pins by Spencer Olivier and Clark Goldbold who are both averaging over three kills per game. Setter Aidan Knipe has set the offense to a .379 overall efficiency while collecting just north of 11 assists per game. Libero Mason Briggs is a leading candidate for the Erik Shoji award. For the visiting Bruins, they also trot out an outstanding international freshman as Ido David has been a standout offensively and at the service line this season. Middle attackers Guy Genis and Merrick McHenry are hitting an outstanding .588 and .495 respectively. Setter Miles Partain, in his first year as the starting setter, has set the team to a .344 efficiency while collected just shy of 10 assists per game.
