George Mason rallies to knock off Purdue Fort Wayne in fifth-game overtime

George Mason fixed its offense woes to mount a road comeback victory.

Setter Zach Talamoa guided the offense to a .478 attack percentage in the final three games as it rallied from a two-game deficit to beat Purdue Fort Wayne 18-25, 20-25, 25-21, 25-20, 16-14 on Thursday.

George Mason was held to a .065 attack percentage in the first two games. In addition, the Mastodons in the loss still finished out-hitting the Patriots .306 to .279.

The Patriots had two players finish at least 15 kills to open their two-match Midwest road trip.

Opposite Jack Bolz had a team-high 21 kills, including five kills in the decisive fifth game. Bolz had a kill to fight off a match-point that forced overtime and then two players later in the overtime delivered the match-winning kill.

Outside attacker Omar Hoyos also had 15 kills on a .387 attack percentage and added a team-high 13 digs.

Opposite Jon Diedrich in the loss finished with a match-high 26 kills while hitting .440.
