What to know: No. 7/6 Lewis will have the challenge of trying to pass one of the top servers in the nation as it plays host to No. 5/5 Long BeachState and freshman outside attacker Alex Nikolov. Nikolov has six aces in Long Beach State’s first two matches, including four aces in a season-opening win against Harvard last weekend. The outside attacker from Bulgaria in those matches also has a combined 19 kills on a .452 attack percentage. Lewis through the first two weeks of the season also has two players among the nation’s leaders for aces. Opposite Cole Brillhart has already set a career high with nine aces, while Preseason All-American setter Kevin Kauling has added seven aces. Kauling has guided the defending MIVA champions to more than a .300 attack percentage in each of the team’s first three matches to open the season. In addition, the Flyers are fifth in the nation with a .412 attack percentage. – .037 percentage points behind the Beach. This will be the eighth all-time meeting between Long Beach State and Lewis. The Beach has won the last two times with the most recent being a road sweep against the Flyers in 2018. Long Beach State also is 40-2 in non-conference matches dating back to 2018.
