Both Charleston and CSUN will have to continue to wait to start their seasons.
The Golden Eagles and Matadors matches this week have been canceled in the midst of the coronavirus Omicron variant spread.
Charleston was scheduled to play host to a non-conference event this weekend with King and first-year program Fort Valley State. Both King and Fort Valley State announced Tuesday it will not compete in the event and instead will move their original scheduled match at Charleston to King’s home arena on Saturday.
Charleston has now had its first four matches of the season canceled or postponed.
CSUN revealed earlier this week that it has paused all activities within the men’s volleyball program due to coronavirus protocols. This pause includes canceling non-conference home matches against Saint Xaiver on Wednesday and Erskine on Friday.
The team is now slated to play Princeton in its season opener on Jan. 19.
The amount of daily new positive coronavirus cases has steadily increased since December throughout the United States, according to the latest data from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. The nation’s seven-day average for daily new positive cases as of Monday has climbed to a record high of 750,996.
