An incoming freshman for North Greenville has punched his ticket to the FIVB U21 Beach Volleyball World Championship.

Setter Caleb Kwekel and his beach partner Dylan Zacca went undefeated and won the gold medal at the World Championship Trial on Friday in Florida to secure the U.S. berth to the international tournament.

This is the latest beach championship for Kwekel, who committed to North Greenville last year and will start his college career in 2022. Kwekel won the 2018 USA Volleyball National Beach Tour championship in the U16 division.

Kwekel and Zacca did not lose a set in the trials highlighted with a sweep of Lindenwood libero Eric Winn and Peyten Young in the championship match.

Winn and Young still have an opportunity to compete in the Beach Volleyball World Championship if the United States is awarded a second bid to the tournament.

Winn as a freshman last season did not appear in a match for Lindenwood and earned Academic All-MIVA honors.

Along with these two teams, Lindenwood middle attacker Matthew Gentry and his bech partner Phillip Catanzaro won the bronze medal at the U.S. trials. Gentry and Catanzaro will serve as alternates for the United States if it receives multiple berths to the U21 Beach Volleyball World Championship.

The U21 Beach Volleyball World Championship will take place Sept. 24-29 in Thailand.
