One of the top players in the history of Hawai’i men’s volleyball and the U.S. Men’s National Team will be enshrined among the sport’s all-time greats.

The International Volleyball Hall of Fame announced Wednesday that Clay Stanley was selected to the latest hall of fame induction class.

Stanley remains in the Rainbow Warriors’ top 10 all-time with both a 4.52 career kills per game average and a 0.40 career aces per game average. In addition, the opposite set the single-match program record with 50 kills against UCLA in 1999 and then tied the single-season program record with 50 aces in 2000.

Stanley following the 2000 season opted to forego his redshirt senior year to begin his professional career. He also followed in his father’s footsteps and became a member of the U.S. Men’s National Team.

As a first-time Olympian, Stanley led the United States with 83 kills and 17 aces as he helped the United States advance to the 2004 bronze-medal match.

Four years later Stanley was named the Olympic Most Valuable Player and Best Server en route to leading the United States to its first gold medal since 1988. Among his top performances at the 2008 Olympics included having both a match-high 15 kills and two aces in the gold-medal match against Brazil.

Stanley in 2012 finished his final Olympics as the top U.S. scorer and had 16 kills in a four-game pool-play win versus Brazil.

Two former NCAA Division I-II men’s volleyball players are a part of this nine-member hall of fame class. Former UC Santa Barbara setter Todd Rogers will join Stanley being enshrined into the hall of fame.

“This Class has been two years in the making and we are excited to be back again celebrating the careers and legacies of these nine incredible Inductees.” IVHF Executive Director George Mulry said during a live video message announcing the class. “This is going to be a truly remarkable Induction Celebration in October and I hope volleyball fans from all over will make the trip to Holyoke or tune-in to the live broadcast. It’s going to be a very special event.”

The induction ceremony will take place on Oct. 15-16 at the International Volleyball Hall of Fame in Holyoke, Massachusetts.
