One of the top middle attackers in college men’s volleyball has opted to play professionally instead of returning for his senior season.

Simon Andersen announced recently on Instagram that he will forgo the remainder of his college career at Long Beach State and will play for Decospan, a professional team in Belgium.

Andersen finished Long Beach State’s abbreviated 2021 season second in the nation averaging 1.40 blocks per game. The National Blocker of the Year finalist also was in the nation’s top 15 with a .392 attack percentage, including having a season-high 12 kills while hitting .667 in a victory against UC Irvine.

The two-time NCAA champion middle attacker during his sophomore season led the team with a .573 attack percentage as Long Beach State won the 2019 national title.

Along with his experience at Long Beach State, Andersen is a member of the Denmark Men’s National Team and is currently competing with the team at the CEV European Silver League.

Long Beach State despite the loss of Andersen still return a majority of starters after ending the 2021 season in the top of the national rankings. The Beach played a limited 10-match conference-only regular season schedule last season and advanced to the Big West Tournament semifinals.
