No. 6/7 UCLA upset No. 2/2/ BYU on Saturday night in Los Angeles 25-18, 21-25, 27-25, 25-15. The turning point in the match was when the Bruins fought off six game-points to force overtime in the third game. UCLA closed on a 9-1 run to take the third game, 27-25. The Bruins comeback was spurred by the serving of senior outside attacker Austin Matautia who had two aces during the run. Middle attacker Ian Parish and opposite Kevin Kobrine chipped in with two kills each during the run. UCLA, which out-hit BYU .374 to .287, was led by Kobrine’s career-high 23 kills on a .500 attack percentage.
