Coach Jay Hosack in a postseason match didn’t waste any time changing his starting lineup — just 23 points into the opening set.
Inserting setter Zach Talamoa into the match turned out to be the right move.
Talamoa guided the offense to a .270 attack percentage as the No. 3 seed George Mason swept the No. 2 seed NJIT 32-30, 25-15, 25-23 in the EIVA Tournament semifinals on Thursday in University Park, Pennsylvania.
The Patriots had a match-best .407 in the second game en route to their first win of the season against the Highlanders. All-EIVA opposite Hayden Wagner also led all players with 14 kills, including having a game-high seven kills in the opening game.
Talamoa defensively added a match-high 10 digs and helped limit the Highlanders to a .182 attack percentage.
