Initial look at ConfCarolinas Tournament opening round matches

The college men’s volleyball postseason will officially get underway with the ConfCarolinas.

The conference tournament opening round will begin Thursday. Check out matchups and the historical tidbits to know before filling out your ConfCarolinas Tournament bracket.

No. 5 seed King (10-12, 7-7 ConfCarolinas) vs. No. 8 seed Lees-McRae (2-18, 2-12 ConfCarolinas)
Match vitals:
7 p.m. Thursday in Bristol, Tennessee
Season series: King swept Lees-McRae in two matches earlier this month.
All-time series: King leads 17-5
ConfCarolinas Tournament titles: King (2018); Lees-McRae (none)
Stats to know: King is on a 15-match winning streak against Lees-McRae dating back to 2014. In addition, the Tornado has advanced to at least the ConfCarolinas Tournament semifinals in three consecutive seasons. Lees-McRae has not won a postseason match since 2013 and is making its first appearance in the ConfCarolinas Tournament since 2018. A No. 8 seed has never won a match in the ConfCarolins Tournament.

No. 6 seed Emmanuel (9-12, 6-8 ConfCarolinas) vs. No. 7 seed Erskine (9-14, 4-9 ConfCarolinas)
Match vitals:
7 p.m. Thursday in Franklin Springs, Georgia
Season series: Emmanuel defeated Erskine in four games in March and swept the Fleet on Tuesday.
All-time series: Erskine leads 9-8
ConfCarolinas Tournament titles: Emmanuel (none); Erskine (2014, 2016)
Stats to know: Emmanuel is making its second consecutive appearance in the Carolinas Tournament since becoming eligible for the postseason. Erskine has not won a postseason match since winning the ConfCarolinas championship in 2016. With the new tournament format, this is guaranteed to be the second time in conference history that a No. 6 seed or No. 7 seed will win a ConfCarolinas Tournament match.
