What to know: Ball State already exorcised its postseason demons against Ohio State and will now try to end its recent struggles in the MIVA Tournament semifinals. The Cardinals enter this road match versus the MIVA regular season champions having lost six consecutive times in the conference tournament semifinals. In addition, Ball State has not reached the MIVA Tournament finals since 2009 when it defeated Lewis in the semifinals. All-MIVA setter Quinn Isaacson guided Ball State to a .388 attack percentage in a quarterfinals victory against Ohio State for the program’s first postseason win versus the Buckeyes since 1997. Lewis is third in the nation with a .336 attack percentage, including hitting .392 in a quarterfinals sweep against Quincy last week. Outside attacker Ryan Coenen, the 2021 MIVA Player of the Year, leads the conference and is second in the nation averaging 4.50 kills per game. The senior also had a combined 26 kills in a two-match series sweep against Ball State in March.

What to know: There remains only one MIVA team McKendree has yet to beat in its seven-year program history. The Bearcats will have to earn a program-first win against the Ramblers in order to reach the MIVA Tournament finals for the first time in their program history. Loyola All-MIVA outside attacker Cole Schlothauer is in the conference’s top five with both a 3.95 kills per game average on a .312 attack percentage, including having a combined 25 kills while hitting .339 in a two-match series sweep versus McKendree in March. Opposite Luke Denton in that series finale also led all players with a season-high 25 kills. However, the All-MIVA selection had limited time on the court in Loyola’s quarterfinals victory against Lindenwood last week. McKendree middle attacker Lucas Galifos enters this match leading the nation with a 1.53 blocks per game average. In addition, Galifos had a match-high nine blocks to help McKendree beat Purdue Fort Wayne in five games in the quarterfinals. Libero Francisco Comas added a season-high 21 digs in the postseason win and is third in the conference with a 2.17 digs per game average.

Opposite Justin Sharfenaker led Lincoln Memorial with 13 kills on a .321 attack percentage in a semifinals sweep against Tusculum on Friday. Sharfenaker ended the regular season among the national leaders with a 3.22 kills per game average and was named the Off the Block Independent Teams Freshman of the Year. Queens swept Limestone in its semifinal match on Friday with middle attacker Sterling Sims having nine kills and zero errors on an .818 attack percentage. He also had a combined 27 kills in a two-match series sweep against Saint Francis in February.
