ConfCarolinas Tournament Quarterfinal matches

No. 3 seed North Greenville (12-4, 7-4 ConfCarolinas) vs. No. 6 seed Emmanuel (10-12, 6-8 ConfCarolinas)

What to know: The two teams split the season-series, with Crusaders sweeping the match played in Tigerville, while the one played in Franklin Springs went the distance. In terms of momentum, both teams are coming in from opposite directions. North Greenville is 9-1 on the road this year, while Emmanuel is 3-8 away from the Shaw Athletic Center. North Greenville has lost two of their last three matches, with four cancellation in the middle of that span. Emmanuel, on the other hand, has won four straight matches, including their first ever post-season win. First-team all-conference outside attacker Jackson Gilbert will lead the offensive attack for the Crusaders, as he had 35 kills combined in the two previous matches between the teams. The Lions will count on first-team all-conference middle attacker Don Thompson and second-team all-conference outside attacker Aleksa Lakic to lead their attack. North Greenville clearly has edge in serving and blocking, ranking No. 3 and No. 6 nationally in both respective statistical categories. The one area where Emmanuel has the statistical edge in digs per game, where they boast a 9.30 digs per game average, good for No. 11 nationally. The winner of this match will play No. 2 seed Belmont Abbey in the ConfCarolinas semifinals hosted by King on Saturday.

What to know: These two teams have won the last three ConfCarolinas tournaments, with Barton winning in 2019 and 2017. King has the edge in terms of momentum, having swept Lees-McRae in the previous three matches. Since 2012, the teams have split the 22 contests between them, including both of their regular season matches this year. King actually has a better record on the road (6-5), than the do at home (5-7). Barton is 7-1 in the friendly confines of Wilson Gymnasium this year. Second-team all-conference outside attacker Adrian Iglesias had 39 kills for the Bulldogs in the two matches between the team, while third-team libero Edwin Montaruli had 38 combined digs. Not be outdone, ConfCarolinas Defensive Player of the Noah Melendez had 40 combined digs for Tornado, while fellow first-teamer Joshua Kim had 30 kills of his own. Barton ranks No. 2 nationally with 10.54 digs per game, while King is No. 4 nationally with 10.42 digs per game. Barton ranks No. 11 nationally with 12.73 kills per game, while King will counter with 2.125 block per game average, good for No. 13 nationally. The winner of this match will play No. 1 seed Mount Olive in the ConfCarolinas semifinals hosted by King on Saturday.
