What to know: Coach Joel Walton will get one final shot to knock off Ball State’s oldest rival in the postseason. Walton, who will retire at the end of the season, has never defeated Ohio State in the MIVA Tournament during his 23-year tenure as the Ball State head coach. In addition, the Buckeyes are on a 11-match postseason winning streak against the Cardinals spanning the entire rally scoring era. Ball State and Ohio State split their regular season series this year with both teams winning on the road in five games. Ohio State outside attacker Sotiris Siapanis concluded the regular season second in the conference with both a 3.93 kills per game average and a .363 attack percentage. The MIVA Newcomer of the Year had a combined 34 kills while hitting .347 in the two matches versus Ball State. However, Siapanis had 19 kills and was limited to a season-low .111 attack percentage in a five-game upset loss to Quincy to conclude Ohio State’s regular season. Ball State in its regular season finale upset McKendree to surpass Ohio State and earn the No. 4 seed along with home court advantage for this quarterfinals match. Middle attacker Felix Egharevba in the victory set a single-match rally scoring era program record with 16 blocks.
