Something has happened for the first-time ever – Lewis is no longer No. 1 in the Division II coaches poll released on Tuesday morning. This is first time in 60 editions of this weekly poll the Flyers are no longer the top-ranked team. McKendree received all nine first-place votes and sit alone as the top Division II team in the nation according to the voting committee of Division II coaches.
In fact, there has only been one poll where a team shared the No. 1 slot with Lewis. In Week 11 of the 2018 season, both Concordia-Irvine and Lewis shared the top spot.
McKendree cemented their top spot status by defeating previous No. 1 Lewis in four games on Friday in Romeoville, Illinois. This is a historic week for the Bearcats who were ranked No. 7 in the AVCA Division I/II coaches poll released on Monday.
Ranking No. 5 nationally with 2.661 blocks per game, the Bearcats are led middle attacker Lucas Galifos who has 1.357 blocks per game (No. 3 nationally).
The biggest mover in this week’s poll was No. 8 Quincy who moved up two spots after defeating No. 7 Lindenwood in four games in Quincy, Illinois on Friday night. The Hawks were led by outside attacker Michael Ladner who had a career-high 21 kills on a .351 attack percentage.
Both NCAA Division I and NCAA Division II men’s volleyball programs compete for the same national championship. The AVCA National Coaches Poll ranks the top 15 Division I-II men’s volleyball teams and is released each Monday during the regular season.
A national voting committee comprised of coaches from the more than 15 Division II teams determines the weekly rankings for the Division II National Coaches Poll.
The Division II National Coaches Poll will be released on the Off the Block website every Tuesday during the regular season.
