No. 1/1 Hawai’i (5-0, 1-0 Big West) vs. No. 3/2 UC Santa Barbara (4-1, 0-1 Big West)

What to know: No. 3/2 UC Santa Barbara will try to find a way to slow down All-American middle attacker Patrick Gasman as it continues its three-match series against No. 1/1 Hawai’i. Gasman led all players with nine blocks and added a career-high 14 kills on a .571 attack percentage in a four-game victory to open the series Thursday. Hawai’i out-hit UC Santa Barbara .322 to .252, including holding the Gauchos to a match-low .075 attack percentage in the final game. This was the first time this season UC Santa Barbara hit less than .300 in a match. Both the Rainbow Warriors and Gauchos entered the series leading the nation with more than .350 attack percentage. Despite the loss, All-American opposite Randy DeWeese had a match-high 21 kills against Hawai’i. DeWeese through the first five matches of the season leads the Big West with a 4.44 kills per game average and has more than 20 kills in two matches.
No. 5/6 Lewis (10-2, 5-2 MIVA) vs. No. 6/5 McKendree (8-0, 7-0 MIVA)

What to know: Two weeks later No. 6/5 McKendree will try to repeat one of its biggest wins in program history. Undefeated McKendree will play host to the defending MIVA champions No. 5/6 Lewis in the rematch after the Bearcats on the road defeated the Flyers in four games last month. Outside attacker Ethan Carroll in that victory led McKendree with a season-high 15 kills on a .379 attack percentage against Lewis. In addition, middle attacker Lucas Galifos had a match-high five blocks to help the Bearcats extend their season-opening winning streak to eight matches. Galifos enters this match leading the MIVA and third in the nation averaging 1.36 blocks per game. Lewis rebounded from its loss to McKendree with a two-match series sweep against Ball State last week. Setter Kevin Kauling guided the offense to more than a .325 attack percentage in both of those victories. Despite hitting .265 in their first meeting versus McKendree, Lewis has more than a .300 attack percentage in five MIVA matches and is fourth in the nation with a .322 attack percentage. All-American middle attacker Tyler Mitchem is fifth among all players in the nation hitting .532 and has double-digit kills in seven matches. Mitchem also had a season-high 16 kills and zero attack errors on a .889 attack percentage in a sweep against Ball State last week.
