What to know: Two traditional men’s volleyball powerhouses kick off their 2021 season as UC Irvine hosts Hawai’i. The Rainbow Warriors enter the season with national title hopes and a loaded roster. Rado Parapunov averaged just shy of five kills per game in 2020 and Gage Worsley took home the Erik Shoji Award, given to the nation’s top libero. Keep an eye out for Hawai’i at the setter position as both Brett Sheward and Jakob Thelle got playing time in 2020. The Anteaters got off to a slow start in Big West play in 2020, but enter the 2021 season with high expectations. Scott Stadick returns for his senior year after averaging over two blocks per game in 2020. Joel Schneidmiller is one of the country’s most talented and experienced outside attackers and Alexandre Nsakanda is a human highlight film from the opposite position. Keep an eye out for libero AJ Faille who led the team in digs in 2020 and will need a big performance against the high powered offense of Hawai’i.
