Recipients unveiled for Off the Block National Weekly Awards

Off the Block announced on Monday the recipients of the National Position Player of the Week Awards and the National Freshman of the Week.

The National Position Player of the Week Awards recognize the libero, middle attacker, opposite, outside attacker and setter who had the best performances in NCAA Division I-II men’s volleyball during the week. In addition, the National Player of the Week is presented to the top freshman from the week in NCAA Division I-II men’s volleyball.

The Off the Block staff determines each award recipient. The winners are announced every week during the regular season on the Off the Block website, offtheblockblog.com.

While there are other weekly national awards in college men’s volleyball, these are the only position-based and freshman-based weekly awards.

Off the Block at the end of the season presents the Lloy Ball Award to the nation’s top setter, Bryan Ivie Award to the nation’s top opposite, the Karch Kiraly Award to the nation’s top outside attacker, the Ryan Millar Award to the nation’s top middle attacker and the Erik Shoji Award to the nation’s top libero. It also presents the Freshmen All-American Team at the end of the regular season.

National Setter of the Week: Garrett Zolg, Loyola
National Opposite of the Week: Joshua Kim, King
National Outside Attacker of the Week: Blake Reardon, Ball State
National Middle Attacker of the Week: Tyler Mitchem, Lewis
National Libero of the Week: Trevor Kennan, George Mason
National Freshman of the Week: Landon Krause, Lewis

National Setter of the Week: Garrett Zolg
Zolg returning to the court for the first time since 2019 because of an injury guided the offense to a .271 attack percentage and added five blocks in a four-game victory against Lincoln Memorial on Friday. The setter also had a match-high four aces and helped Loyola hit .366 in a sweep versus Queens on Saturday.

National Opposite of the Week: Joshua Kim, King
Kim had a combined 37 kills on a .356 attack percentage in a two-match series sweep against Saint Francis. The opposite also had two aces in both matches and a team-high 11 digs in the four-game victory to open the series on Friday.

National Outside Attacker of the Week: Blake Reardon, Ball State
Reardon led all players with both 25 kills on a .391 attack percentage and two aces as Ball State defeated No. 13 George Mason in four games on Saturday. He also had a match-high 24 kills and added three blocks in a five-game series-opening loss to George Mason on Friday.

National Middle Attacker of the Week: Tyler Mitchem, Lewis
Mitchem finished with a match-high 10 blocks and had 11 kills and zero errors on a .786 attack percentage as No. 5 Lewis defeated Campbellsville in four games on Wednesday. The middle attacker also had 12 kills on a .474 attack percentage and added five blocks in a sweep against Lincoln Memorial on Saturday.

National Libero of the Week: Trevor Kennan, George Mason
Keenan had a match-high 17 digs as No. 13 George Mason defeated Ball State in five games on Friday to open a two-match non-conference series. The libero also led all players wiht 12 digs in a four-game loss to Ball State on Saturday.

National Freshman of the Week: Landon Krause, Lewis
Krause had a match-high 18 kills on a .577 attack percentage and added three blocks as No. 5 Lewis swept Lincoln Memorial on Saturday. He also contributed three kills coming off the bench in a sweep versus Queens on Friday.
