One of the most successful ConfCarolinas programs will go up against the best programs in the history of the EIVA.
King as part of recently releasing its 2021 schedule announced it will travel to play a non-conference match against Penn State on Jan. 23 in University Park, Pennsylvania.
This will be the first all-time meeting between the Tornado and Nittany Lions.
King has advanced to the last two ConfCarolinas Tournament finals and finished the shortened 2020 season in third place in the ConfCarolinas. Multiple starters return for the Tornado, including middle attacker Douglas Florencio who was among the conference leaders with a 0.82 blocks per game average last season.
Penn State was undefeated in EIVA play and ranked No. 8 in the national media poll when the 2020 season was canceled because of the coronavirus pandemic. Outside attacker Brett Wildman as a sophomore was in the nation’s top 20 with a 3.68 kills per game average and was named the Co-EIVA Player of the Year.
This non-conference match also will feature two Coach of the Decade recipients.
King coach Ryan Booher was voted the ConfCarolinas Coach of the Decade, while Penn State coach Mark Pavlik was selected as the EIVA Coach of the Decade.
The match-up will be the Tornado’s fourth match in a 48-hour span. As part of a season-opening Pennsylvania road trip, King will play both Grand Canyon and Saint Francis on Jan. 22 and then will play NJIT on Jan. 23 at Saint Francis before traveling to play Penn State later that night.
Penn State and Saint Francis are separated by about 60 miles.
