A pin hitter who set high school records and two players in the USA Volleyball pipeline will join Penn State.
Penn State announced on its social media account during the weekend that high school seniors Matt Cosgrove, Ryan Merk and Cole Ignaszak have all committed to join the Nittany Lions starting in the 2022 season.
Cosgrove, a 6-foot-5 outside attacker from Chesterfield, Missouri, earned 2019 all-conference honors as he finished the season leading his high school team with more than 200 kills. The three-sport high school athlete participated in the USA Volleyball High Performance Program and made the U.S. Boys’ Youth A1 National Training Team.
Ryan Merk, a 6-foot libero from Chicago, also was named to the U.S. Boys’ Youth A1 National Training Team earlier this year. The libero with his high school team was an all-area honorable mention in 2019.
Cole Ignaszak, a 6-foot-7 outside attacker and opposite from Buffalo, was selected to the 2019 All-Western New York boys’ volleyball team. In addition, Ignaszak concluded that season setting his high school’s single-season record for both blocks and kills.
Penn State concluded the shortened 2020 season undefeated in the EIVA and ranked No. 8 in the national media poll.
