The Independent Volleyball Association Championships will have a new team in its tournament field.
Limestone as part of unveiling its 2021 schedule earlier this week announced it will play in the end of the season tournament for independent NCAA Division I-II men’s volleyball teams.
The Saints athletics department departed the ConfCarolinas at the end of the 2019-20 school year to join the South Athletic Conference. With the SAC not sponsoring men’s volleyball, the conference realignment resulted in the Limestone men’s volleyball team being without a conference affiliation for the upcoming season.
Limestone finished the shortened 2020 season at 13-5 and was on pace to set a single-season program record for wins. A majority of the team’s starters return for the upcoming season, including outside attacker Francisco Salinger Cenzual who was in the nation’s top 20 with a 3.62 kills per game average last season.
Despite no longer being in the ConfCarolinas, the Saints will play 11 of their 20 regular season matches against teams from their former conference.
Limestone will have home-and-home series with Barton, Emmanuel, Erskine, Lees-McRae and North Greenville. It also will play a road match against King.
Along with these matches, Limestone will play home-and-home matches versus fellow independent teams Lincoln Memorial, Tusculum and Queens.
