Two international events that feature high school recruits and college men’s volleyball will no longer take place this year.

Both the U21 Pan American Cup and the U19 NORCECA Continental Championships have been cancelled because of the coronavirus pandemic.

The two tournaments were slated to take place later this month in Colorado Springs, Colorado, and were qualifiers for the U19 and U21 FIVB World Championships in 2021.

USA Volleyball earlier this summer unveiled preliminary rosters for the Boys’ Youth National Team and the Junior Men’s National Team in the event these bi-annual tournaments were played. However, neither team was able to hold training camps or prepare for the tournaments that would later be canceled because of the pandemic.

The coronavirus has killed more than 175,000 Americans and nearly 800,000 people throughout the world.

This is the second U21 event for the United States that has been canceled due to the coronavirus. The U21 NORCECA Continental Championship was initially scheduled to be played July 22-27 in Cuba but was postponed until July 3-11, 2021.

The United States finished the 2018 U21 NORCECA Continental Championship in fourth place but failed to qualify for the most recent U21 World Championship in 2019.

The country also won the silver medal at the 2018 U19 NORCECA Continental Championship.
