One of the top offensive players in the ConfCarolinas is heading back to Emmanuel.
Coach James Friddle informed Off the Block that senior outside attacker Aleksa Lakic has opted to return for the 2021 season.
The NCAA granted men’s volleyball players an extra year of eligibility after the remainder of the 2020 season was canceled in March because of the coronavirus pandemic. This eligibility ruling, which applied to all student-athletes in spring sports, resulted in seniors being able to come back for the upcoming season.
Lakic finished the 2020 season eighth in the ConfCarolinas and among the national leaders with a 3.27 kills per game average. The Serbian native also had more than 20 kills in three matches, including a season-high 23 kills on a .340 attack percentage in a road victory against Lees-McRae.
As a potential five-year starter, Lakic will enter the 2021 season needing less than 200 kills to surpass the 1,000 career kills milestone.
Emmanuel was in seventh place in the ConfCarolinas at the time the 2020 season was canceled and on pace to qualify for the conference tournament for the second consecutive year.
