MIVA head coaches will help finance an educational and networking opportunity for two minority volleyball coaches.
The conference announced Thursday that it will sponsor two AVCA Diversity Award winners for the 2020 AVCA Convention.
The AVCA Diversity Award was created to both assist minority coaches entering the coaching profession and to help chances of career advancement. Recipients of the award in previous years have their registration and lodging costs paid for so they can attend the AVCA Convention.
“This donation provides opportunities for up-and-coming ethnic minority members of our coaching community to attend the AVCA Convention,” the eight MIVA coaches said in a joint statement. “We challenge volleyball coaches around the country to do the same.”
The AVCA last year selected 19 recipients of the Diversity Award.
The AVCA Convention is the premier annual volleyball coaching conference in the nation. The upcoming AVCA Convention will take place Dec. 16-19 in Omaha, Nebraska, and will feature more than 100 educational sessions.
