Documentary about growing men’s volleyball to debut on Facebook

A documentary about the growth opportunities for men’s volleyball in the black community will debut this week.

“Match Point: The Rise of Men’s Volleyball” will premiere at 8 p.m. Thursday on the USA Volleyball Facebook page.

The film explores the challenges of men’s volleyball growing in diverse communities across the United States. It also highlights several of the successes with the sport’s attempt to increase the diversity of players.

Among the coaches featured in this 30-minute documentary includes McKendree coach Nickie Sanlin, Fort Valley State assistant coach Edward Wrather along with UCLA coach and U.S. Men’s National Team coach John Speraw. In addition, the volleyball journey of former Ball State outside attacker Jamion Hartley is chronicled.

Ball State students in the College of Communication, Information and Media filmed and directed this documentary. Former Ball State middle attacker Parker Swartz served as the co-director and executive producer.

The project was developed in collaboration with the First Point Volleyball Foundation.
