An Off the Block/Frisco Mo All-Independent Team selection will be back at Daemen for another season in 2021.

Coach Donald Gleason informed Off the Block that opposite Zach Yerington will return to the Wildcats next season as a second-year graduate student.

The NCAA granted men’s volleyball players an additional year of eligibility after the remainder of the 2020 season was canceled in March because of the coronavirus pandemic. This eligible ruling, which applied to all student-athletes in spring sports, resulted in seniors and graduate students being able to return for the 2021 season.

Yerington joined Daemen last season as a graduate transfer and finished among the national leaders with a 3.25 kills per game average. The opposite had double-digit kills in nine matches, including a single-match program-record 36 kills on a .466 attack percentage in a five-game victory against Lincoln Memorial.

Before arriving at Daemen, Yerington graduated from Ohio State in 2019 and spent two seasons playing for the Buckeyes. Ohio State in both those seasons won the NCAA championship.

The Wildcats in the program’s second year ended the shortened 2020 season at 12-7 — a six-win improvement from the previous year. The independent team also had won nine of its lst nine matches at the time the season was canceled.
