One of the biggest rivalries in college men’s volleyball will no longer take place this week.

Loyola announced Wednesday that its conference match against No. 5/5 Lewis on Friday has been postponed because of the coronavirus.

The Flyers are in first place in the MIVA, while the Ramblers despite having an injury-plagued season are in fifth place. The two programs have combined to win five of the last seven MIVA championships and five years ago met in the NCAA Tournament finals.

Along with this postponing this conference match, Loyola has cancelled upcoming non-conference matches against Lincoln Memorial, Princeton and Emmanuel. It also announced earlier this week that it is restricting attendance at home matches to only essential personnel, family members of players and the media.

These scheduling changes come on the same day that the Missouri Valley Conference suspended all conference spring sports. All Loyola teams, expect for men’s volleyball, compete in the MVC.
