Lincoln Memorial opposite named Frisco Mo, OTB Independent Teams Player of Week

Opposite Evan Cory is earning a college men’s volleyball honor after on back-to-back days having two of his best performances of the season.

Off the Block announced Monday that the Lincoln Memorial senior was selected as the Off the Block/Frisco Mo Independent Teams Player of the Week.

Cory led the team with both a season-high 24 kills on a .391 attack percentage and 14 digs in a five-game victory against Belmont Abbey on Friday. He also had both a match-high 23 kills on a .409 attack percentage and 14 digs as Lincoln Memorial defeated Emmanuel in four games on Saturday to extend its winning streak to five matches.

The Independent Teams Player of the Week recognizes the best player during the week from NCAA Division I-II men’s volleyball teams that are competing without a conference affiliation.

The seven independent teams this season are Alderson Broaddus, Daemen, Lincoln Memorial, Queens, St. Francis-Brooklyn, Tusculum and Urbana.

Off the Block determines the Independent Teams Player of the Week based on a variety of factors, including a player’s individual performance and how a player’s team fared during the week.

The winner of the Independent Teams Player of the Week is unveiled every Monday during the regular season on the Off the Block website, offtheblockblog.com.
