What to know: Two of the leading frontrunners for the MIVA Player of the Year will face each other as No. 14 Purdue Fort Wayne plays host to No. 5/5 Lewis. Outside attacker Pelegrin Vargas, the 2020 MIVA Preseason Player of the Year, enters this conference home match third in the nation with a 4.63 kills per game average. Vargas has double-digit kills in every MIVA match so far this season, including a match-high 17 kills on a .417 attack percentage in a four-game victory against Ohio State last week. He also is hitting a career-best .325 and recently surpassed the career milestone of 500 digs. Lewis All-American middle attacker Tyler Mitchem is third in the nation with a .516 attack percentage and has double-digit kills in six consecutive matches. Mitchem during this stretch has committed a combined five attack errors and had zero errors in back-to-back matches last week. Along with his offensive performance, Mitchem is in the nation’s top 20 with a 1.04 kills per game average. Lewis is undefeated in road matches this season and holds a one-match lead on second-place Purdue Fort Wayne and McKendree for first place in the MIVA.
