Seven years and 15 matches later No. 10 Purdue Fort Wayne has ended its steak against Loyola.
Middle attacker Tomas Gago had 10 kills and zero errors on a .625 attack percentage as Purdue Fort Wayne swept Loyola 27-25, 25-23, 28-26 on Saturday in Chicago.
Gago was one of two Mastodons to have double-digit kills in the team’s first victory against the Ramblers since 2013. Preseason All-American outside attacker Pelegrin Vargas had both a match-high 19 kills on a .333 attack percentage and nine digs in the conference opener.
Along with his offensive performance, Gago led all players with five blocks. Middle attacker Richie Diedrich also contributed four blocks as Purdue Fort Wayne out-blocked Loyola 11.5 to 3.5.
Outside attacker Devin Joslyn in the loss finished with a team-high 14 kills.
Loyola was out-hit .293 to .232 en route to its sixth consecutive loss to a nationally ranked team this season.
