What to know: Undefeated and No. 1/1 Hawai’i will face its biggest test so far this season as it travels to No. 5/5 Lewis in a rematch of the 2019 NCAA Tournament semifinals. The Rainbow Warriors through their first five matches have yet to lose a set and have a nation-best .412 attack percentage. Preseason All-American opposite Rado Parapunov also had double-digit kills in back-to-back matches, including a match-high 13 kills while hitting .579 in a sweep against Grand Canyon on Saturday. Lewis returns home following victories against No. 7/7 UC Irvine and UC San Diego during a West Coast road trip last week. Outside attacker Ryan Coenen led the Flyers with both 19 kills and 11 digs versus the Anteaters and is among the national leaders with a 3.29 kills per game average. In addition, the Preseason All-American had a match-high 18 kills and added nine digs in Lewis’ four-game postseason loss Hawai’i. The Flyers are 1-6 all-time against the Rainbow Warriors but this will be the first time they have a home match in the series.

What to know: No. 4/4 UC Santa Barbara enters its home match with No. 10/10 Purdue Fort Wayne trying to prevent outside attacker Pelegrin Vargas from having another big offensive performance. The Preseason All-American in his season debut had both a match-high 22 kills on a .588 attack percentage along with three aces as Purdue Fort Wayne swept CSUN on Wednesday to open its West Coast road trip. Vargas missed the Mastodons’ first two matches of the season because he was playing for the Puerto Rican Men’s National Team at an Olympic qualification tournament. Despite Puerto Rico not earning the North American berth to the 2020 games, Vargas finished in the top 10 at the international tournament with both 23 kills and a 43.4 percent offensive efficiency. This will be the first time both the undefeated Gauchos and Mastodons have played a nationally ranked team this season. UC Santa Barbara swept all three matches at its home tournament last week, including hitting .458 in a victory against McKendree. Randy DeWeese, who converted from setter to outside attacker during the offseason, had a match-high four aces and added six kills while hitting .500 in that tournament finale. He also led all players with both 14 kills on a .440 attack percentage and three aces in a sweep against Concordia-Irvine. This is the second consecutive year that UC Santa Barbara and Purdue Fort Wayne have played each other. The Gauchos in a four-game road victory last year limited Vargas to 13 kills on a .167 attack percentage. In addition, they out-blocked the Mastodons 15 to 5.5.
