The best season in the college career of Kamil Garbowski is being capped off with a national honor.
Off the Block announced Tuesday that a nationwide voting committee selected the Kean senior as the 2019 Off the Block/Molten Division III National Middle Attacker of the Year.
The Division III National Middle Attacker of the Year is an annual award presented by Off the Block that recognizes the top middle attacker in NCAA Division III men’s volleyball during the season.
Garbowski was second in the nation with a career-best .455 attack percentage. He also had eight matches with double-digit kills and at least a .350 attack percentage, including a season-high 15 kills while hitting .591 in a victory against then-No. 2 Stevens in February.
Along with his offensive performance, Garbowski averaged 0.52 blocks per game highlighted by a season-high four blocks in a victory against UC Santa Cruz in April.
Kean was ranked in the top five of the national coaches poll throughout the second half of the regular season. In addition, the Cougars finished in second place in the CVC.
The voting committee for this national award was comprised of about 20 NCAA Division III men’s volleyball coaches from around the nation. The top-three vote-getters were named finalists and the student-athlete receiving the most votes was named the award winner.
Garbowski received 22 votes — two more votes than the runner up UC Santa Cruz middle attacker Raymond Cascio. In addition, Aradia middle attacker Austin Braas garnered 18 votes for a third-place finish.
The National Middle Attacker of the Year is one of five Division III national awards that Off the Block presents. It also presents the Off the Block/Molten Division III National Setter of the Year, Off the Block/Molten Division III National Opposite of the Year, the Off the Block/Molten Division III National Outside Attacker of the Year and Off the Block/Molten Division III National Libero of the Year.
